Extended access service

  • Appointments are available to book between 6.30pm and 8pm on weekday evenings and between 9am and 5pm on Saturdays.
  • Face-to-face GP, First Contact Practitioner and Nurse appointments are bookable at Violet Lane Medical Practice, 231 Violet Lane CR0 4HN on Saturdays only

If you are a Croydon resident and are unable to get an urgent appointment at your GP surgery you can call NHS 111 for an assessment of your problem. Emergencies are situations that cannot be managed at home and may be life threatening

Less than urgent
If you need medical advice or to see a doctor call 111. There will be someone to provide you with advice and to direct you to a clinician if it is necessary.

Pharmacists
  • Pharmacists (chemists) can provide advice and treatment for a wide variety of medical problems.
  • Many Pharmacists are open longer hours than the Surgery.
  • Pharmacists are highly trained professionals that provide advice on a wide range of problems.
  • They can be particularly helpful for advice about colds, flu, sore throats, ear ache or coughs.
  • They can also advise on regular medication and ways to stop smoking.
  • Pharmacies can offer emergency contraception.
Urgent Treatment Centres
  • Urgent Treatment Centres (previously known as Walk-In Centres) can now only be accessed via an appointment system, booked by NHS111. Patients can no longer access a ‘walk-in’ service, without an appointment. Please call 111 or visit the NHS 111 online website

Emergency Dental Treatment
A GP is not appropriately trained to deal with dental problems. This includes toothaches, abscesses and problems experienced after dental treatment. We cannot provide antibiotics as it is necessary to have a full assessment before prescribing such things.

We would therefore suggest patients register with and attend regularly a dentist who can provide appropriate routine and emergency advice. Dentists offer a 24 hour emergency service. Out of normal surgery hours, this service is only for urgent dental treatment that cannot wait until the next working day to be treated.

For emergency dental treatment outside normal working hours, registered patients should contact their dental surgery. Most surgeries have an answering machine message referring you to out-of-hours information.
